When God Feels Silent: Be Strong in Faith

“I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope.” – Psalm 130:5 (KJV)
Silence Isn’t Absence
There are seasons when God seems quiet. You’ve prayed. You’ve believed. You’ve waited—and still, it feels like heaven is holding its breath. The silence echoes, and you wonder: Did He hear me? Did I miss something? Am I alone in this?
But silence is not absence. The God who sees also hears. And the God who hears also remembers. Just because He hasn’t answered yet doesn’t mean He’s forgotten you. God says, “I will never leave you.” Never means never. Trust Him to keep His word to you.
A Soul That Waits in Faith
Waiting tests us in ways action never could. It asks us to stay soft when the heart wants to grow hard. It invites us to hope again—even when the days pass with no sign. God’s word says faith is the substance and evidence. In other words, faith is the “stuff” that proves God is working all things for our good, even when God is silent.
The psalmist didn’t just wait passively; he waited with expectation:
“My soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope.”
Hope anchors the soul when our prayers return in silence. And Scripture becomes our lifeline when emotions tell us otherwise. In the waiting, faith deepens, not because we always feel it—but because we choose to believe that God is still working behind the silence. We choose to be strong in faith.
He Is Still with You
You’re not forgotten. You’re not being punished. Remember, God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jer. 29:11 KJV) One translation says God knows His plans toward you, to prosper you and not “harm” you. God is for you. He is not out to harm you but longs to give you peace.
And you’re not alone. Some of God’s greatest works begin in silence—think of the three days between the Cross and the Resurrection. Heaven’s hush does not mean your story is over. It may mean your miracle is being written in unseen ink.
Come Closer by Faith
Don’t pull away because you feel ignored. Come closer. Whisper your frustration, your grief, your longing. God welcomes it all. And even now—especially now—He is drawing near.
Reflection
Are you in a waiting season? Does it feel like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling? Write down what feels unanswered. Then, write down one Scripture to hold onto in the silence. Remind your heart that even when God is quiet—He is still speaking through His Word.
Prayer
Lord, I confess it’s hard to wait. It’s hard not to hear You, and it’s hard not to feel discouraged. I need You to meet me in the silence. Help me trust You are still moving, even when I can’t see it. Anchor me in Your Word and give me hope for the unseen. Oh, my soul stay strong and wait upon the God who never leaves me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
